Why job application process is so time-consuming for major ATS? How can we fix it?

Most of the employers (Google being a major exception followed by ‘Easy Apply’ option of LinkedIn) want the candidates to spend at-least 30-45 minutes in the job application process typing information which is already available in the CV. Most of the CVs are unstructured documents and even best-in-class CV parsers have low success rates. This is why major Applicant Tracking Systems have tedious application process.

What if the candidates, specially techies could create their CVs using a industry standard XML/JSON format and use it to apply just by submitting this CV in one of these formats. Well, such standard formats already exist but unfortunately require wider adoption by the industry to become mainstream.

Check out following resources for XML/JSON CV formats:

As a recruiter have you ever seen a XML/JSON CV? As a candidate, have you spent hours in the application process? Please share your experience in comments.
